Baz Ashmawy’s new show Wingman started on RTE One last Sunday night at 9.30pm.
In each of the 3 episodes, Baz encounters a person with a personal project which they are unsuccessful achieving by themselves. In the first episode Baz meets Jimmy the dairy farmer from Tougher who wants to put on a two-man show about lonely farmers, a subject close to his heart. The play is a huge success with the locals, when Baz steps in to help. Impressionist Conor Moore has just completed a commercial for Bridgestone Golf Balls, with Tiger Woods.
Tiger Woods has a lot of people trying to imitate his golf swing but he hasn't had as much experience with Conor Moore trying to imitate him. Tiger says that the Bridgestone Tour B XS golf ball fits with his unique playing style and could help Conor, too, if he ever decides to drop the imitation game. Tiger also discussed what Conor nailed and what he needs to work on. Impressionist and comedian Conor Moore, brought plenty of laughs to the Ryder Cup last week.
Team captain Thomas Bjorn also showed a ten-minute video of Mullingar man Conor Moore taking off all 12 players in a fake press conference. This proved a big hit with the golfers and they were very happy to have a laugh before the serious stuff got underway in Paris. Celebrity impressionist and comedian Doireann Garrihy, doesn't know what she is letting herself in for!
Doireann is the new co-host for the Podge and Rodge show, which will be coming soon to RTE 2. Reality programmes see some strong contenders including "Operation Transformation" with Karl Henry, Kathryn Thomas and Dr Ciara Kelly. In the Best Single Documentary category, Joe Duffy's "Children of the Revolution" has been nominated. Current affairs nominees include Claire Byrne for her show "Claire Byrne Live". IFTA, the Irish Film & Television Academy, has also announced that broadcaster Pat Kenny is to receive the Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award.
