Claire Byrne is a Radio and Television Broadcaster with the national service provider RTÉ where she specialises in current affairs programmes.
Claire presented her own show Claire Byrne Live on Monday nights on RTÉ One for seven years from 2015 to 2022. The current affairs programme brought in-depth analysis of current issues and topical reports.
On radio, Claire hosts the Today with Claire Byrne show on weekdays from 10-12. Previously, Claire hosted a current affairs programme on Saturday afternoon called Saturday with Claire Byrne on RTÉ Radio One.
The topical current affairs show questioned agendas and dissected the week gone by along with debating the likely issues of the week to come.
A native of Mountrath in County Laois, Claire began her broadcasting career in radio and worked for the BBC in the Channel Islands as a broadcast journalist before becoming News Editor with Channel 103FM.
Claire returned to Ireland and began working with TV3 as an early morning News Anchor with the station's breakfast programme, Ireland AM. Following two and a half years of early starts, editing and producing her own bulletins, she moved to London to take up a position as News Anchor with Channel 5 and the ITN News Channel. It wasn't long before TV3 beckoned once again and Claire returned to Ireland to take up the job of Ireland AM presenter. From there, she became the main evening News Anchor on TV3, winning the Irish Film and Television Academy's TV Personality of the Year Award and the TV Now Favourite News Anchor Award.
On radio, Claire joined Newstalk 106-108 FM in 2006 when the station went national. She spent four years anchoring The Breakfast Show, a current affairs programme. Also, on radio but on RTÉ Radio 1 she presented The Marian Finucane Show for an extended period and anchored the political show, Late Debate in the run up to the election and also News at One. She was also part of the Morning Ireland team from 2013 -2014.
In 2010, Claire joined RTÉ as a Presenter on television and radio. Along with presenting current affairs programmes on RTÉ Radio One she co-presented The Daily Show, which is a mix of topical discussion, consumer issues and entertainment, on RTÉ One television for two years. She also presented Ireland Search and Rescue on RTÉ One in 2012. She was part of RTÉ’s flagship current affairs programme Prime Time for two years before her own current affairs show Claire Byrne Live which started in 2015.
Additionally, she presented the Entrepreneur of the Year in India where she accompanied the 24 finalists to a business trip in Mumbai and co-hosted the awards ceremony.
Charitable involvements include The Daisy House, Irish Hospice Foundation, Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, The Peter McVerry Trust and The Irish Kidney Association amongst others.
