On Easter Monday, RTÉ organised a series of arts events around the country to celebrate Cruinniú na Cásca and a special large scale event in Dublin which drew an estimated crowd of more than 500,000 people from across the country. As part of this celebration, Custom House Quay was transformed into a live music stage, garden zone and dance zone. Joe Duffy broadcast his Liveline programme live from the stage. The programme was broadcast as if from 1917 when the country was then preoccupied with much greater concerns than in the present day, following the tumult of the Easter Rising and the fact that thousands of Irishmen were still dying on the Western Front during the first World War. |
