Joe Duffy Launches Commemorative Garden for the Children of 1916

Joe Duffy, Paul McAuliffe, the new Lord Mayor of Dublin and minister Katherine Zappone, were in St Audeon's Park in Dublin City Center last week, at the opening of the 1916 Children's Commemorative Play Garden.

The garden was launched to remember the 40 children killed in Dublin during the Easter Rising of 1916, which was highlighted by Joe Duffy's book "Children of the Rising"

Over 220 children and young people were consulted on the garden as part of 2016 Centenary Programmes.  They felt  they wanted something that would both honour the children of 1916 and give pleasure to today’s children and young people.

Ryan Tubridy Launches Coca-Cola "Thank You" Fund.

​Ryan Tubridy was in The Little Museum of Dublin recently for the launch of the 2019 Coca-Cola "Thank You" Fund. 

The fund was set up to enable a network of organisations and youth-orientated groups to effect change and inspire and support young people in Ireland aged 16-25.  The Fund works with charities, community, sporting and voluntary organisations and will provide €100,000 in 2019 for related projects.

Ryan was joined by Clara Ryder who is a past participant of the Next Step Programme, with her Guide Dog Noah.

Doireann Garrihy Launches VHI Women's Mini Marathon

Doireann Garrihy is calling on women all around the country to come out and support the 37th annual VHI Women's 10K mini marathon, which will take place in Dublin on Sunday 2nd of June at 2pm.

Over 30,000 women are expected to walk, run or jog the route, starting in Fitzwilliam Square and finishing on Baggot Street.

The event gives the ladies a chance to raise funds for a charity that is close to their heart, whilst having a fun day out and exercising. 


Chernobyl Children International Charity Lunch

The Chernobyl Children International annual lunch was held in the Intercontinental Hotel last week, to raise much needed funds for Adi Roche's charity CCI.

Celebrities turned out in force to support this amazing event, including Lyric Soprano Celine Byrne who lifted the roof off with her amazing voice.

The afternoon also saw Chernobyl survivor Raisa Carolan take to the stage to share her heart-breaking experience before she was adopted by the Carolan family in Co. Meath.  Despite being an amputee and having to undergo over 30 operations Raisa is determined to live her life to the full and has joined the Irish Wheelchair Rugby team. She has also  just graduated with a Masters in Criminology.

Kathryn Thomas Turns on Christmas Lights at Temple Street

As ambassador to Temple Street Children's Hospital, Kathryn Thomas and two special little patients, and of course the man himself...kicked off the Temple Street festive season in style recently.

With his sparkling red sleigh lighting up the night, Santa Claus and Rudolph arrived at the doors of the hospital to an ecstatic crowd he was safely escorted to the hospital by an Gardai Siochana.

He made sure to visit each ward with treats and surprises to the delight of every sick child.

Claire Byrne Urges Families to Think About Organ Donation

Claire Byrne recently met  with kidney transplant recipient Tadhg McElroy (age 7)  from Bray, Co Wicklow and Sadhbh Browne (age 4) from Mountbellew, Co Galway who awaits a liver transplant.

Claire wishes to highlight an advertising campaign organised by the Irish Kidney Association, which encourages families and friends to discuss organ donation as they gather for the festive season.  There are approx 550 people who are currently on transplant waiting lists for hearts, lungs, liver, kidney and pancreas. 

The Irish Kidney Association are asking people to become organ donors by doing the following:-
  • Freetext DONOR to 50050  
  • Visit the website www.ika.ie/card 
  • Your wishes to be an organ donor can also be included on the new format driving licence which is represented by Code 115. 
  • Download a free ‘digital organ donor card’ APP to your phone.




Derry Clarke Helps Raise Funds for Temple Street and Pieta House

Derry Clarke's guests were ​ treated to a gastronomic dining experience in the surrounds of Stradbally Estate with five star silver service at this year’s Electric Picnic. 

Derry teamed up with Tesco finest to serve a fine dining banquet at the three day event, creating a mouth-watering menu for picnickers to enjoy 
 while also raising much needed funds for Temple Street Children’s University Hospital and Pieta House

Celine Byrne Sings for "Children in Hospital Ireland"

Huge thanks to Celine Byrne who hosted a Summer Gala in the Pavilion Theatre in Dun Laoghaire recently.  Along with Dearbhal Brosnan - piano, Ailbhe McDonagh - cello and Lynda O'Connor - violin, Celine wowed the audience with some of the best loved songs from the world of Opera, Operetta and Musicals.

Celine very kindly gave up her time to host the gala on behalf of the charity "Children in Hospital Ireland" who recruit and train volunteers to play with sick children in hospitals throughout Ireland, allowing parents to have a much needed break.


Baz Hosts LauraLynn Oscars

The third annual Laura Lynn Oscars took place in the Odeon Cinema Charlestown, last Saturday.

This black-tie event was hosted by Baz Ashmawy and Tracy Clifford and was a fun-filled day engaging the whole family.

Eight short films were each directed by the children and their families along with the support of the producers at Windmill Lane who give the films a really professional look.

The two presenters spent time meeting young fans and their relatives, and also posed for selfies ahead of the invite-only screening at the northside cinema.

LauraLynn is the only dedicated children's hospice in Ireland. It provides clinical care, support and palliative services to children with life-limiting conditions. 

Ryan Tubridy Cheers up the Children in Crumlin

Not everyone is lucky enough to be at home enjoying Christmas Day. Some children spent Christmas in Crumlin Hospital having treatment.

Ryan Tubridy went to visit some of these children in hospital before Christmas to have a chat and also to create awareness for the Crumlin Medical Research Foundation who help provide funding for the critical care given to over 120,000 sick children in Crumlin Hospital ever year.

According to CMRF, one in 100 children in Ireland are born with a structural heart defect, and one in 19 people in Ireland carry the Cystic Fibrosis gene.

With so many children battling with childhood illness and disease day in day out, hundreds of Irish children spent Christmas in hospital
