Paddy McKenna has worked for RTE since graduating from DCU in 2005 where he completed a Masters in Journalism. The Leitrim native has broadcast across several RTE Television and radio programmes but his first desk was in the RTE Newsroom sandwiched between Anne Doyle and Sharon NiBheolain – quite the experience! It was there he presented ‘News2day’ for 2 and half years. From there he moved onto RTE Sport and 2FM where he spent almost two years presenting ‘The Saturday Show’ alongside Ruth Scott.
In early 2010 he got used to 5am starts having joined the Colm & Jim Jim Breakfast Show as sports reporter. Within 4 months he was co-presenting the show with Jim Jim Nugent and went on to anchor the show on his own. This stint earned him a regular slot on 2FM’s ‘Weekenders With Paddy & Ruth’ where he can currently be heard each Saturday 4-7pm and Sunday 2-5pm.
2010 was also a busy year for Paddy’s TV appearances. He presented C’mon Caman (RTE’s award-winning hurling skills show), Test The Teachers and ICE for RTE. He has also appeared as a reporter/presenter on programmes as diverse as The Late Late Show, The Afternoon Show and Nationwide.
Away from broadcasting, his big passion is music and his band, Storyfold, release their debut album later this year.
Paddy McKenna currently presents Weekenders on RTE 2FM each Saturday and Sunday with Ruth Scott. He can also be seen every Thursday on RTE1’s ‘The Daily Show’, discussing movies.
