Pete Wedderburn - Veterinary Surgeon, Radio – TV Broadcaster, Columnist and Author

Pete Wedderburn represented by Noel Kelly Pete Wedderburn (BVM&S CertVR MRCVS) qualified as a veterinarian from Edinburgh, Scotland in 1985. He has worked in his own 4-veterinarian companion animal practice, BrayVet, in Bray, County Wicklow, since 1991 and he has his own menagerie of dogs, cats, ducks, hens and others (including a pet rabbit in his kitchen).

Pete Wedderburn represented by Noel Kelly Pete is well known as a media veterinarian in Ireland and the UK, with a regular breakfast television slot on Ireland AM on TV3 for the past fourteen years. On the show Pete brings along a different pet each week to highlight a particular subject or medical condition. The weekly feature also accepts viewer queries covering a wide range of different questions people may have about their pets. He has also presented other primetime television programmes including TV3's Animal A&E which features a range of different and interesting animal situations, including a weekly visit to Pete’s BrayVet practice to see some of the sick animals that they have been caring for. On RTÉ Pete worked on Echo Island for six seasons. In this young people’s programme, Pete held his “Pet Clinic" where he answered viewers' calls about their pets. Separately in the UK, Pete has contributed to a number of shows including BBC Breakfast where he discussed the relative intelligence of dogs and cats, BBC's Rip Off Britain where he covered issues involving pet insurance and internet pharmacies, and also More 4's coverage of Crufts in Birmingham.

Pete has also been working as a regular contributor to radio, both nationally and locally, for over twenty years. Every week Pete joins Pat Kenny on Newstalk for his listener query slot. In addition he has contributed to other national radio programmes including Moncrieff on Newstalk and Mooney on RTÉ Radio One. His regular slots on regional radio include East Coast Morning Show on East Coast Radio and Spirit FM.

Pete is a prolific writer on animal topics. He has had a weekly column in the Evening Herald since 2006 and a weekly column in the UK's Daily Telegraph since 2007. He also writes weekly features in the Independent network of around twenty regional newspapers. In these columns, Pete shares his expert tips and advice on caring for animals and pets and also tells some interesting stories about our furry friends. In addition he regularly contributes to Ireland’s Own Magazine and Women’s Way Magazine along with Veterinary Practice and Veterinary Times magazines in the UK, which are published for vets.

He has authored three books to date. The first book is titled My Dog Thinks He's Human, and the second is called My Cat Is Ignoring Me. Both books include some of his most helpful tips, and they are illustrated with hilarious cartoons by Per Jose Karlen. His third book Pete Wedderburn’s Healthy Pets was aimed at young people taking up pet keeping.

Pete is known as "Pete the Vet" on his busy Facebook and Twitter pages, regularly posting information on topical subjects and real-life cases from his clinic. He also writes a regular blog at www.petethevet.com. His mission in life is to communicate high quality information to pet owners, in an entertaining, engaging way.

Pete is a patron of Madra and also works with SpayAware Ireland.
