Gráinne Seoige - TV Presenter - Radio Presenter


Raised in Spiddal, Co. Galway, Gráinne's father Máirtín, a garda, and her mother Phil both native Irish speakers, raised their children in a bilingual household.


Educated at Mercy Convent, Spiddal, County Galway, Gráinne graduated with honours in English, Sociology and Political Science from University College Galway before completing a Higher Diploma in Applied Communications for Television and Radio, also at UCG (now NUIG).

Gráinne Seoige began her career on October 31, 1996 with the launch of Teilifís na Gaeilge (now TG4) anchoring the 10pm news bulletin. Gráinne left the Connemara station to become launch anchor for TV3 in 1998, where she anchored it's daily news bulletins for over five years. She also worked on occasion as a presenter on the station's breakfast show, Ireland AM.


In 2004, Gráinne was again headhunted this time by the international network - Sky News. She fronted Sky News Ireland each weekday evening and spent a successful stint at Sky News Centre in London where she worked on every news programme between 12am and 12pm, including Sunrise with Eamonn Holmes and Sky News Today from 9am to 12pm.
She is the only news anchor to have presented the inaugural news bulletins on two Irish terrestrial stations - TG4 and TV3, and she is the first television personality to have worked with all four Irish television stations - TG4, TV3, Sky News Ireland and RTÉ.

 


 

She was presented with the Hewlett Packard duais don Ghaeilge at the 2007 NUIG Alumni Awards for services to the Irish language.

Gráinne presented RTÉ’s flagship late-afternoon daytime show, Seoige for three seasons. In addition to working on RTÉ's coverage of the Galway Races and presenting the People of the Year Awards for a second year, Gráinne has also co-presented RTÉ Television’s Up For The Match with Des Cahill and the hugely popular All Ireland Talent Show.

Gráinne is the Patron of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI) and in her spare time she has a keen interest most sports particularly Gaelic Games.
